BCL calls off indefinite strike at CU
A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League yesterday withdrew their indefinite strike enforced at Chittagong University, demanding withdrawal of a murder case filed against several BCL leaders.
The group called the strike on Monday, also seeking immediate release of former assistant proctor Anwar Hossain, who was sent to jail in the case filed for killing Diaz Irfan Chowdhury, central assistant secretary of BCL.
Former CU unit BCL president Mohammad Alamgir Tipu, also an accused in the case, said they withdrew the strike as the CU authorities assured them of taking necessary steps to meet their demands.
However, VC Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury denied the claim, saying that he talked to the government officials and urged them to conduct a fair investigation of the case.
The body of Diaz was found hanging in his room near the campus on November 20, 2016.
