Raintree hotel owner, GM quizzed at NHRC office
The owner and the general manager of Raintree hotel, where two university girls were allegedly raped recently, were quizzed by National Human Rights Commission's fact-finding committee this afternoon.
Shah Md Adnan Harun, also the managing director of the hotel, General Manager Frank Forget were interrogated by the committee after they reached NHRC’s Karwan Bazar office around 4:15pm, Nazrul Islam, convener of the committee, told reporters after the interrogation.
Earlier on Tuesday, the rights body asked them to appear before the committee today.
The Deputy Commissioner of DMP Gulshan circle Moshtak Ahmed and Officer-In-Charge of Banani Police Station Farman Ali were also asked to appear before it on the same day.
But the police officials requested the NHRC body to defer their hearing citing lack of preparation, he said.
Asked about the outcome of today’s interrogation, Nazrul said they will crosscheck the information given by the authorities.
Meanwhile, Shah Md Adnan Harun, said that he wants a fair probe into the incident.
The Raintree Dhaka hotel in Banani has been under the radar of law enforcers and other government agencies since two university students alleged to have been raped there in March.
The commission on May 8 formed the five-member committee to "identify the criminals and ensure their punishment". The committee was asked to submit its report within 15 working days.
Meanwhile, police said they found certainty of the rape incident from all the testimonials.
On March 6, one of the victims filed a case accusing five persons including Ahmed Shafat, son of Apan Jwellers owner Dildar Ahmed, alleging that they were raped in The Raintree hotel on March 28.
Police have arrested all the accused so far – including the prime accused Shafat.
