Army to be deployed in nat'l election: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday said army will be deployed during the upcoming general election, but not during the city polls.
“I think army will be deployed during the general election… but we have no plans to deploy army during city polls,” he said.
The CEC was talking to reporters after inaugurating a training workshop on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at the Circuit House in Barisal city.
Replying to a query about BNP's participation in the national election, he said the EC is unable to take any separate initiative for a specific party. “We urge all the parties to participate in the polls; we hope BNP would participate…,” he said.
Allegations of vote rigging and irregularities will be eliminated with the introduction of EVM in all voting centres. “To avoid irregularities, EVM should be introduced,” he said.
“In Khulna city polls, voting in three centres was suspended due to irregularities. We're also investigating similar allegations in other centres,” he said.
