Another accused sent to jail

A Chittagong court yesterday sent another accused to jail in a case filed over the rape of four women of a family during robbery at Karnaphuli upazila in Chittagong.

Mahmud alias Faruki was arrested on Tuesday.

When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sayedul Mostafa of Karnaphuli Police Station told The Daily Star that for some reasons the remand prayer for Faruki   could not be submitted yesterday.

The investigation officer knows the reason better, he said, adding that the prayer would be submitted to the court today.

Early Wednesday, a gang of robbers rapped the four women, aged between 20 and 25, at gunpoint after looting their house, said police.

Of the four, three are wives of three Dubai expatriate siblings and the other is their husbands' sister, who came to visit them.

Police so far held five people, including Faruki, in the case.  Another accused Abu, who was identified by one of the victims, was sent to jail on Tuesday.

Police did not find involvement of the other three and will free them soon, he added.

The investigation officer could not be reached over the phone.
