Anarchy eclipses govt success: Menon
An extreme anarchic situation is prevailing in banking and education sectors at present, overshadowing the government's success in different areas, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon told parliament yesterday.
Menon, also president of Workers Party, a component in the ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance, said this while speaking in the thanksgiving motion on the president's speech.
“Bangladesh is now a role model in development. But some unfortunate incidents including question paper leaks, which have turned epidemic, and anarchic situation in banking sector have outshined the government's success,” he said.
Pointing to anarchic situation in banking sector, Menon said the number of loan defaulters is increasing gradually.
“Money is being laundered on a regular basis and it is possible to prepare several national budgets with that money,” he said.
People hope that the government will investigate the looting of money from banks and money laundering, and bring those to books involved in such criminal activities, he added.
