Ambedkar a crusader against injustice
The contribution of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar to Indian justice system was unparallel, speakers at a commemorative programme said yesterday.
They said Ambedkar fought for eliminating caste system from the society throughout his life.
High Commission of India in Dhaka in association with Bangladesh-India Friendship Society arranged the programme in Cirdap auditorium to celebrate BR Ambedkar's 126th birth anniversary.
Speaking at the programme, barrister Amir-Ul Islam said Ambedkar's lifelong struggle to establish justice was second to none. “He was a crusader against social injustice,” he said.
Prof AK Azad Chowdhury, president of the friendship society, and Subir Kushari, its general secretary, also spoke.
Popularly known as Babasaheb, Ambedkar was the principal architect of the Constitution of India.
He was born on April 14, 1891 to a poor low Mahar (dalit) caste in Madhya Pradesh. He earned doctorates in economics from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and gained reputation as a scholar for his research in law, economics and political science.
