‘ACC to take action against drug peddlers on getting list’
Anti-Corruption Commission’s Chairman Iqbal Mahmud today asked the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) to submit within a month an updated list of drug peddlers with accurate addresses.
Although this is not the ACC’s job but it will take steps against the drug peddlers as all the money acquired through this business is illegal, Iqbal Mahmud said at a programme at BIAM Foundation Auditorium in Dhaka. .
The DNC was asked to submit a list of drug peddlers last June as they are the ones who know who the drug peddlers are. A list with 365 names was provided. When ACC launched a drive against 17 top drug peddlers, it found all those addresses were inaccurate, Iqbal Mahmud said.
“Has the narcotics control department gone out of control?” Mahmud remarked while taking about the inaccurate address list.
The narcotics control department has been given a month’s time to provide with an updated and corrected list of address of the drug peddlers, he added.
In response to Iqbal Mahmud’s comments, Salahuddin Mahmud, director general of DNC who was presiding over the meeting, said that he was newly appointed to the department and would take necessary measures in this regard.
A program was arranged at the Bangladesh Institute of Administrative Management (BIAM) by the DNC.
ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmud was the chief guest in the program whilst Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, secretary of public security services of the home ministry and Arup Ratan Chowdhury attended as special guests.
