8 FFs injured in Kurigram road crash

Nine people including eight freedom fighters were injured as a battery- run three-wheeler collided head-on with their auto-rickshaw at Kurigram district yesterday.

The injured were taken to the Kurigram Sadar Hospital, of them Abu Yousuf Sarker is admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, said Abed Ali, chairman of Durgapur Union.

The men were on their way to attend a Victory Day function at Ulipur upazila in the district, Shirajul Islam Tuku, former chief of Kurigram freedom fighters' unit commander, told our Kurigram correspondent.

The three-wheeler fell into a roadside ditch in the Bailey bridge area after the accident, he added.

The driver of the three-wheeler is absconding. No case has been filed in this regard, said Abdullah Al Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Ulipur Police Station.

Meanwhile, our Bagerhat correspondent reports, three people were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Bagerhat district yesterday.

Two were killed as a bus hit a pickup in Chuknagor area of Khulna-Bagerhat highway, said KM Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Highway Police Station. Two others were injured.

In another incident, a man was killed and 10 others were injured when two buses collided in Barakpur area of Khulna-Bagerhat highway. 

The victim died when a Dhaka-bound bus collided with another passenger bus on the highway, said Jamal Hossain, sub-inspector of Katahali highway police.

In Jamalpur, a truck rammed two motorbikes killing two and injuring three on the Jamalpur – Dewanganj highway yesterday.

A Jamalpur-bound truck hit the two bikes after the driver lost control, Majharul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station told our local correspondent.

The injured were first taken to Jamalpur General Hospital and later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated, the OC added.

No further details on the incident were known immediately.
