648 spots for slaughtering in Dhaka north
Dhaka North City Corporation has designated a total of 648 sites for an organised slaughtering of sacrificial animals and better waste management during the Eid-ul-Azha, said its mayor Annisul Huq at a press conference on the DNCC office premises in the capital's Gulshan yesterday.
Of them, 196 sites will have services like water supply, Imams and butchers, he said, adding that over tow lakh polythene bags will be distributed among the city dwellers for the collection of animal trash at sources.
Asked how the residents will know where their designated slaughtering site is, he said, "We will distribute 3.65 leaflets with the help of local councillors and propagate through miking."
They also published public awareness notices in this regard in newspapers yesterday.
They have readied a total of 3,230 cleaning workers including 2,225, who are their regular employees, to get the cattle markets cleaned and wastes of slaughtered animals removed within 48 hours beginning from 2:00pm on the Eid day, the mayor added.
Among other equipment and vehicles, they have 200 waste carrying trucks including 70 hired to remove the waste, he said.
Along with a control room at every zone, there will be a central control room set up in Mirpur with the telephone no 9004734 and another in Gulshan with telephone no 9861393 for those requiring waste removal service.
There will also be adequate van service all across the north city to help waste removal at household level, he said.
The DNCC officials and employees brought out an awareness campaign after the conference.
