57 gold bars seized at Dhaka airport
Customs intelligence recovered 57 gold bars weighing 6.65 kilogrammes from a Regent Air flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this morning.
The gold bars, weighing 116.65 grams each, were found under the seat no 23A of flight RX724 came from Muscat, said Customs Intelligence Director General Moinul Khan.
Acting on a tip-off, the intelligence officials conducted the raid after the flight landed at the airport around 9:00 am, he said.
“The bars will be handed over to Bangladesh Bank authorities. We will try to trace if any airport officials were involved in the smuggling,” the DG said.
The current market price of the gold is Tk 3.3 crore, the official added.
