4,000 police deployed in Ctg ahead of Eid

A total of 4,000 police, including regular police force, would be deployed across Chittagong city during the Eid holidays.

Newly appointed Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman came up with the information while addressing a meeting with the media yesterday evening. Mahbubur is the 29th commissioner of CMP.

The meeting was held at Dampara Police Lines of CMP where additional commissioners and deputy commissioners were present.

Uniform and plain clothes officials will increase patrol in sensitive areas, including banks, wholesale and retail markets, mosques, and bus and rail stations during Eid-ul-Fitr while 4,000 police will be deployed across the city ahead of Eid to avert any untoward situation, said Mahbubur.

Apart from that, CMP has already opened temporary control rooms in the three entry points of the city and rail station to ensure a hassle-free journey for holidaymakers, said Additional Commissioner (crime and operation) Amena Begum.

Talking to the reporters, the CMP boss expressed his stern position against drug and militancy.

“Eradicating drugs and fighting against militancy are my first priority. No one will be spared if found involved in drug trade,” said Mahbubur Rahman.

Earlier, he served Rajshahi Metropolitan Police as commissioner.
