4 of family hurt in Old Dhaka fire
Four members of a family including two kids sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a house in Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka early today.
Rezaul, 35, his wife Rani Akter, 25, their two minor daughters Anika, 3, and Sanjida, 2, were whisked off to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) immediately after the incident.
The fire ensued around 1:45am as Rezaul went to his kitchen and lit up a cigarette, Shamimur Rashid Talukder, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station told The Daily Star.
The fire might have originated from a leak in the gas line leading to accumulation of gas in the kitchen, the OC added.
However, Rezaul told journalists at the hospital that the fire broke out as he tried to light a kerosene lamp at the kitchen.
