3 burnt in Lalbagh fire
At least three people sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at three-storey tin-shed building in Lalbagh of Dhaka this afternoon.
The injured were identified as Abdul Majid, 25, Abdul Baten, 18, and Humayun Kabir, 17. They were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the hospital sources said.
The fire originated at a plastic godown in the tin-shed building around 1:30pm and spread to the adjoining five-storey building where the victims were working, said Liton Ahmed, senior station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Tuku Mia, a resident of the nearby building, said Majid and Humayun jumped off the third floor to escape the fire but they sustained burn injuries by this time.
Both legs of Humayun were also fractured, he said adding that locals rescued Baten from the building.
Majid suffered 46 percent burn injuries while Baten, 25 percent and Kabir 52 percent in the incident, DMCH sources said.
Five firefighting units later doused the fire after two hours of their hectic efforts.
