3 Bangladeshis 'escape' from Kolkata jail
Three on trial Bangladeshis have allegedly escaped from Alipur Central Jail in Kolkata, India.
The escapees are Faruque, Emon Chowhdury Ronoy and Ferdous Sheikh.
Arun Gupta, director general of the jail, said three jail guards have been suspended for lapse in providing security. He did not elaborate further.
Red alert has been issued in Uttar Chabbish Pargana and Dakkhin Chabbish Pargana border areas.
The three were arrested from Uttar Chabbish Pargana and Sonapur in Dakkhin Chabbish Pargana in 2013 and 2014.
Faruque is an accused in arms and robbery cases while Emon in an abduction case and Ferdous for entering the country unlawfully.
Quoting guards, the Kolkata media said a shawl was found on the wall in front of watchtower 4. The three presumably used it to scale the wall on Saturday night.
The prison authorities are also looking into the roles of the guards.
