2 ambulance brokers get 6-month jail at DMCH
A mobile court today sentenced six months’ imprisonment to two ambulance brokers at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for allegedly halting an ambulance carrying a dead body.
The accused, Tanvir and Abir, are residents of Azimpur area of the capital and brokers of ambulances at DMCH.
They stalled an ambulance on DMCH premises carrying the dead body of one Gourapada Saha for three hours when his relatives were taking away the body after he passed away at the hospital, said Sarwoer Alam, executive magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
The duo tried to force the deceased’s relatives to hire an ambulance from them and let go the one they had already hired, he also said.
Rab officials in civil dress at DMCH caught the duo red handed and informed the mobile court, which later handed them the verdict of six months in jail for their offence, the executive magistrate added.
