2 accused confess to rape, sent to jail

The bus driver and his helper who allegedly raped a garment worker inside a bus at Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh were sent to jail yesterday.

The accused Shamim Mia, 35, and Hafizul Islam, 23 were sent to jail after they were produced before the court, Mamun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhaluka Police Station said.

The confessional statement of the duo was also recorded at the court under section 164, the OC added.

According to the case statement, the 14-year-old girl was returning home after finishing work on Friday night.

When the bus reached Aamtoli area in Bhaluka, the other workers got down from the bus but the driver and helper tactfully kept her in.

Later the duo raped the girl inside the bus and left her at the place, the case statement said.

Victim's father lodged a case with Bhaluka Police Station accusing Shamim and  Hafizul, the OC said.
