17 BNP men face arrest in arson case
A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against 17 BNP men, including MK Anwar and Barkatullah Bulu, in an arson case.
After accepting charges against 34 BNP men including the 17, Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order.
The court directed the officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station to submit by March 22 on execution of the arrest warrants against the 17 BNP men.
BNP leader Salauddin Ahmed, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, Shirin Sultana and Khairul Kabir Khokon are also among the 17 accused.
Among the rest, BNP leader Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel is now in jail while others including BNP leader Amanullah Aman are on bail in the case.
Earlier on September 11 of 2015, Sub-inspector of Wari Police Station Shah Alam, also investigating officer of the case (IO), submitted the charge sheet against them to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, showing 35 people as prosecution witnesses.
The IO showed the 17 BNP men fugitives in the charge sheet and he appealed to the court to issue arrest warrants for them.
According to the case statement, a group of BNP-led 20-party alliance leaders and activists torched a bus by throwing petrol bombs on Dhaka-Adamjee highway near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover on January 30 of 2015.
Later, Wari police filed a case against 27 BNP men including Anwar, Bulu, Aman, Shimul, Sohel and Maruf for their involvement with the incident.
