14pc adults suffer from hypertension
Hypertension is one of the major Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) that affects 14 percent of the adult population in Bangladesh.
The information was revealed in the updated “Bangladesh Health Watch Report” under the title “Non-Communicable Diseases in Bangladesh: Current Scenario and Future Directions”.
The prevalence of hypertension is more than double in semi-urban population (24 percent) compared to that in rural population (11 percent), it said.
“Hypertension is an increasingly vital medical and public health problem. High incidence of metabolic syndrome and lifestyle-related factors such as obesity, high salt intake, and less physical activity may play a vital role in causing the problem,” said Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad.
