Sixth Social Business Day on Thursday

Yunus Centre will organise the sixth annual Social Business Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Thursday.

The daylong event, to be hosted by Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, aims to connect global social business communities to develop effective solutions to various social problems.

The Social Business Day is observed every year on June 28, but it was brought forward a month keeping in mind the upcoming month of Ramadan, according to a statement. 

There will be more than 1,600 participants, of whom more than 250 are international guests from 30 countries. Leading participants include Andrea Jung, president and chief executive of Grameen America; Sharifah Hapsah Shahabudin, senior consultant of Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia; Hans Reitz, founder and managing director of Grameen Creative Lab; Alex Counts, founder of Grameen Foundation; and Peter Hunt, chairman of Grameen Australia.

Prof Yunus will deliver the keynote speech.

A Social Business Marketplace will showcase the products and programmes of social business during the event.

There will also be a special panel on social business in Greater China. This year about 90 participants from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong are attending the event.
