Power crisis in south to be solved soon: Tofail
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said power crisis in the country's southern parts will be solved immediately as the government has undertaken different pragmatic steps in this regard.
"No more electricity crisis would remain in the country's southern part as Bhola has a 225-megawatt capacity power plant. . . Besides, the government has a plan to set up another power plant with the capacity of 400MW here," the minister told journalists after visiting the Independence Museum (Swadhinata Jadughar) in Banglabazar area under the Sadar upazila.
Ahmed said an Indian company would provide 225MW electricity while 100MW would come from Ashuganj, and these would help mitigate the demand of the people in this region in future.
Referring to a new gas field in Bheduria Union of Bhola, which is expected to hold 1.5 trillion cubic feet of gas, the minister said, "Bhola district will be a developed one if the gas-based industries and factories are established here."
Noting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's announcement to construct a bridge connecting Bhola with Barisal, Tofail said it would require only five hours to reach Dhaka from Bhola over the Padma multipurpose bridge.
