Tk 88.6 lakh crore black money originated from Bangladesh in last four decades: BEA president

Black money worth Tk 88.6 lakh crore has been originated from Bangladesh in the last four decades, Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) President Prof Abul Barkat said today.

Of them, Tk 54.8 lakh crore untaxed money was generated in the last 10 years since 2010, which is around 62 per cent of the total, he said.

"At least 11 national budgets can be financed with the total untaxed money generated in the period."

He shared the data in a virtual press conference while presenting BEA's proposed alternative budget.

He also recommended establishment of an independent commission on corruption, black money and money laundering.

The commission will mainly conduct in-depth investigation and researches on corruption, black money and money laundering and made the data public once in every three months through print and electronic media.
