The telecom regulator will organise a public hearing in mid September to directly know about the users' experiences and quality of telecom services, BTRC Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood said yesterday.

BTRC is hosting such an event for the first time, Mahmood said.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has recently received a large number of complaints from the subscribers.

“The high officials of the operators will be present there and they have to respond to the queries of the customers.”

At the last meeting of the commission, BTRC decided to organise such a public-oriented programme. “The quality of telecom service has been a major issue for a long time.” The regulator is also getting frequent complaints on the complexities and loopholes of different internet packages and call rate offers, he said.

BTRC earlier organised public hearings on issues related to licences. The number of participants was limited then and most of the seats were booked by the representatives of the mobile phone companies.

This time, the commission is planning to increase the number of participants to hear from more people, he said.
