LEGAL QUIZ COMPETITION AT UAP
Prize giving ceremony of Departmental Legal Quiz Competition of Law and Human Rights was held on July 13 at the University of Asia Pacific.
Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, addressed the ceremony as Chief Guest. Md. Abdur Rahim, Acting Head of the Department, presided over the program.
Head of the department expressed his vision of making the law department as best one in the country's higher education with the effort of the faculty members and assistance and support from the authority.
Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. Highest scorers from each semester were also given prizes.
2nd International Conference on “The 21st Century Classroom:
Directions, Issues and Changes” at ULAB
Speakers at the 2nd International Conference, jointly organised by the Department of English and Humanities and the Centre for Language Studies of ULAB (University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh) on August 8, spoke of the investment in teachers to maximise the output of technology in 21st century classrooms.
Dr. Andy Curtis, the President-elect of TESOL International, showed the transition from traditional teacher-centred rote learning to outcome-oriented and student-centred learning in today's classrooms.
Dr. A.K. Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended the two-day conference as the chief guest. He recognised the need of digitisation of the classroom and the role of private universities in improving higher education in Bangladesh.
Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, also focused on the marketability of English in today's world.
Brenden McSherry, country director of British Council, shared similar ideas while listing all the projects undertaken by his organisation in promoting English in Bangladesh.
The conference was attended by 70 academics from 29 universities spanning 7 different countries.

session.
Delegates from DIU leave for Malaysia for Asia Summer Program-2014
A team of 38 members -- 33 students along with 5 Faculty members -- and 2 officials of Daffodil International University (DIU) left for Malaysia on August 4 to attend Asia Summer Program-2014 (ASP) at Univeristi Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) led by Doctor Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director of International Affairs. The program started on August 5 and will continue up to August 25.
ASP is a three week credit-based program designed to provide international training for the students, with the aim of building cross-cultural communication, personal soft skill development, confidence building, and career enhancement as well as creating mutual friendship among the participating countries.
Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) supports ASP. Students and teachers from all around Asia -- from 14 universities of 9 countries including Bangladesh -- are attending this summer program.
Last year a group of 12 DIU students and teachers attended the Asia Summer Program in Korea.
NSU Alumnus Bangladeshi Canadian Receives National Award in Canada
75 finalists were shortlisted from 630 nominations after which Canadians had the opportunity to vote for their top immigrants. More than 40,000 votes were cast online. On 24 June the announcement was made: Manwar Khan is one of the recipients of this prestigious award 'RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrants of 2014' for his leadership role.
'The RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards' recognize outstanding individuals from diverse communities who enrich Canada.
Manwar, a Government of Alberta employee, has been an active community advocate against bullying since witnessing and intervening to stop a deadly attack against a fellow commuter on an Edmonton LRT train in December 2012. Manwar is leading a movement in Canada as an anti-bullying activist to create awareness against bullying.
In reaction, North South University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin congratulated Manwar Khan on such great campaign and winning 'Canada's Top 25 Immigrant Award'.
