BNP trying to do politics with BJP chief’s phone call: Quader
BNP is lobbying to get sympathy from foreign countries as the party has largely been isolated from the people due to its violent politics, said ruling Awami League policymaker Obaidul Quader today.
Referring to Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah’s Wednesday phone call to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, he said the BJP chief could telephone chiefs of any political parties in neighbouring counties to enquire about their wellbeing.
“But, holding a press conference to let the media know about the phone call and thus making it a political issue is nothing but BNP’s political bankruptcy,” said Quader, also road transport and bridges minister.
He was talking to reporters at the Padma bridge construction site near Jazira point on his way to Tungipara in Gopalganj this afternoon.
The Awami League presidium member also paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of his Homecoming Day to be observed by the nation tomorrow.
About the phone call, Quader said, “It is BJP chief’s political courtesy to enquire about the health condition the BNP chairperson. That is why he deserves praise.”
But the BNP which always maintains anti-India position should not do any politics over the issue, he said.
When BJP came to power, BNP expressed its excitement and did not take time to congratulate the Indian ruling party largely counting that AL’s longtime friend Indian Congress faced defeat in the election.
But the BNP got disheartened when new Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in his first address assured his country’s position to remain unchanged after the political changeover in India, Quader said.
He added that as the largest and oldest political party in Bangladesh, Awami League always maintains good relations with both the governing and opposition parties in neighbouring countries to strengthen bilateral relations and friendships.
BNP chief's Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan at a press briefing at Khaleda's Gulshan office Thursday informed the media that the BNP chief telephoned Khaleda and enquired about her health condition.
