BNP leader Mosharraf charged with defamation
A Dhaka court today framed defamation charges against BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain for “threatening Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with death”.
The court fixed January 22 next year for starting the trial of the case.
AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami league organisation, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on January 20 last year.
In the case, Siddiqui said Mosharraf issued a death threat to the prime minister and also defamed her while addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club on December 31, 2012.
Mosharraf pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataul Haque read out charges to him.
The BNP leader is now in police custody in a money laundering case.
