Blasts near Jubo League chief’s Dhanmondi house: 3 ‘pickets’ held
Three suspected pickets were detained on charge of exploding several crude bombs and vandalising a bus in front of the Jubo League chief’s residence at the capital’s Dhanmondi this evening.
AB Siddique, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station, told The Daily Star that they have picked up the three from the spot.
He immediately could not confirm the identity of the detainees but said they might be members of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The residence of Omar Faroque Chowdhury, chairman of Jubo League, youth front of the ruling Awami League, is located at Road No. 8 of Dhanmondi.
The Jamaat is observing a 48-hour countrywide hartal from 6:00am today to protest death penalty of its chief Motiur Rahman Nizami for crimes against humanity committed during the country’s liberation war in 1971.
Talking to The Daily Star, Anwarul Islam, a presidium member of Jubo League, blamed the Jamaat-Shibir men for the incident.
He added that the pickets on motorbikes arrived there blasted five crude bombs and vandalised several vehicles including a bus.
