Bid to sell textbooks in Pirgachha market, govt employee arrested
Police on Sunday night seized 8,000 textbooks meant for free distribution among school students in Pirgachha upazila of the district and arrested a class four government employee.
The arrestee is Riazul Islam, 40, a class four employee of Pirgachha upazila secondary education office.
Mokbul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Pirgachha Police Station, said locals caught Riazul near Model Government Primary School at the upazila headquarters at around 10:30pm while he was taking the books to the upazila market in four rickshaw-vans for sale.
Being informed, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) along with police went to the spot, seized the book and arrested Riazul.
Riazul stole the textbook from storehouse of the education office and was carrying them to Pirgachha Market for sale, the OC said.
During primary interrogation, Riazul told police that he was taking the books to the market for sale on instruction of Upazial Education Officer to SR Faruk, the OC further said.
Refuting the allegation, education officer SR Faruk said Riazul took away the books from storehouse.
A case was lodged against Rizul Islam with the local police station.
