BFF out to reduce local coaches
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Salahuddin yesterday reiterated his stance on reducing the number of local coaches employed by the BFF for the purpose of football development in the country. The BFF boss instructed development committee chairman Badal Roy to reduce the number of coaches from 20 to 10 so that a foreign coach for the BFF Academy in Sylhet can be hired.
“I think 10 coaches is enough for development purpose. I would like to see the number of local coaches reduced to 10 and by the expenditure saved from reducing local coaches, we can hire a foreign coach for the academy,” the BFF president told reporters yesterday.
Badal Roy admitted receiving such suggestions from the BFF president, but said that a decision on the number of coaches would be taken by a review committee formed by during a development committee meeting yesterday.
“I presented the BFF president's suggestion in the meeting today. We have formed a five-member review committee which would evaluate the coaches' performance, and whether to renew their contract or appoint new coaches, would be taken based on that report,” said the BFF vice-president.
The BFF president had previously spoke of his intentions to reduce number of coaches employed by the BFF as he felt many of the coaches remain unutilised and that a maximum of ten coaches would be good enough for development purpose. 20 coaches are currently employed by BFF, under financial assistance of AFC, in various capacities -- from grooming players at district football leagues to guiding age-level and women's football teams. These coaches, four of whom are AFC A Licensed, 14 AFC B Licensed and two AFC C Licensed, would end their initial one-year contracts on December 31.
