BCL man killed, 3 hurt in CU factional clash
An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was shot dead and three were injured in a clash between its two factions on Chittagong University campus this noon.
Taposh Paul, a first year student of Sanskrit department, was declared dead when he was brought to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, Jahangir, nayek of CMCH police outpost, told our Chittagong correspondent.
Hailing from Sunamganj district, Taposh was hit by a bullet in his chest, Jahangir said.
The gunfight took place in front of the Shah Amanat Hall around noon following an altercation between two BCL factions over sitting in a varsity shuttle train.
The BCL men locked into the altercation after returning to their dormitories -- Shah Amanat Hall and Shahjalal Hall -- after paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals.
After the gunfight, police were standing guard in front of the halls to avert further clash, said CU Proctor Siraj-ud-Daula.
