Woman poses as JU student for a year
Jahangirnagar University last night suspended a student for his alleged involvement in facilitating a person pose as a JU student for almost a year.
The decision came at an emergency syndicate meeting, said Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique.
The university also sued Al Amin Hossain Shahed, a fourth-year student of geography and environment, and handed him over to Ashulia police, he said.
Sources said Mufsena Takia, who had been attending classes and sitting for tests at the journalism and media studies department for a year, was yesterday found not to be a student of the university at all.
It was discovered when she tried to register for the first-year final exams.
After interrogation, she admitted that she was not a student of JU and that she had made a Tk 4 lakh deal with Shahed and had paid him Tk 20,000. Shahed had promised her studentship at the university in exchange for the money.
A four-member committee, led by Prof Rasheda Akhter, was formed to probe the matter and was asked to submit its report in three weeks.
Takia was handed over to her family.
Sources said Takia claimed to have got admitted to the university under freedom fighter ward quota. Those students have their admissions after regular students and sometimes their roll numbers are provided much later.
