Tripura's new CM phones Hasina, seeks cooperation
Tripura's Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday and sought Bangladesh's cooperation for the development of Tripura.
Biplab Kumar made the phone call before he took oath as the first BJP chief minister in the Indian North East state, Tripura, said PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoting UNB.
In response, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured him of Bangladesh's cooperation. She also recalled the cooperation of the people of Tripura during the 1971 Liberation War.
Later in the day, Deb was sworn in as chief minister of Tripura state, heading the first BJP government in the state following the toppling of 25 years of Communist rule in elections to the assembly last week.
Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office to Deb, a 48-year-old former gym instructor who was bred in RSS ideology in Delhi.
BJP leader Jishnu Deb Burman, a tribal, was sworn in as the deputy chief minister along with seven other ministers, including Indian People's Front of Tripura, a political party of tribals, chief N C Debbarma.
The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) is an ally of the BJP in the northeastern state. The two parties secured two-thirds majority in the elections to the 60-member state legislature.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office to Deb, a 48-year-old former gym instructor who was bred in RSS ideology in Delhi.

Outgoing Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar of CPI(M) also attended the event.
