Love lands youth in foreign jail
A wrong number resulted in a relationship between an Indian girl and a Bangladeshi boy.
It soon became a classic love story full of passion and obstacles.
One day about a year and a half back, 19-year old Antor Singh of Baro Bari village in Panchagarh district, while misdialing a call to a relative using an Indian mobile phone number, got connected with Sumitra Roy's phone.
It was perhaps love at the first “hello”.
They started talking to each other over phone and a love affair blossomed.
On December 12, Antor crossed the border to meet his “fiance”. But on the very first day that he met her, he was caught by the police and sent the boy to jail on charges of illegally trespassing into India.
Sadar thana police in Jalpaiguri district arrested Antor on December 12, said local police officer Bisweshar Biswas.
The Bangladeshi teenager was produced before a court and the judge sentenced him to 14 days in jail.
Antor Singh told police that he fell in love with the Indian girl since they first spoke and that they had been continuing their affair since then. However, he had never previously gotten to see her.
The college girl hails from Dodalia Patkata village under Sadar Block of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal.
Two days back, she asked Antor over phone to come to her house. Responding to the request, he went across the border to see her.
Unfortunately, local people caught him and handed him over to police.
During interrogation, Antor said he had gone to India several times earlier. But this time, he crossed the border to finally marry the girl of his dreams and start a family. He even took work as an assistant to a plumber in Jalpaiguri.
Antor Singh told police that as his house was very close to the Indian border, he could easily use his mobile phone connected through an Indian network.
However, Sumitra Roy did not make any comments in this regard. Her family could not be reached either.
A local resident, Babul Biswas, said a girl of their area cannot be married to a Bangladeshi boy who entered India without valid Indian documents. Considering the girl's future, local people handed Antor over to police, he added.
