Teacher Recruitment: 4 teachers, 12 aspirants held for cheating
Law enforcers yesterday detained four teachers, including a college principal, and 12 aspirants of government primary school assistant teacher in Pabna, Barisal and Jamalpur for various irregularities.
They also detained 10 others, including a former Chhatra League leader, during and job exam held in different parts of the country.
The teachers were caught red-handed by a mobile court in Pabna while using mobile phones and allowing candidates of the exam to use electronic devices, according to court officials.
They were identified as Prof Rezaul Islam, principal of Government Bulbul College; Abdul Haque, lecturer of Mothurapur Amena Khatun Degree College and Iqbal Hossain and Shamim Hossain - both lecturers of Dr Johurul Kamal Degree College.
The court also handed out punishments, including jail time and fines, to nine candidates of the same centre.
Jasim Uddin, deputy commissioner of Pabna, who led the mobile court, told our correspondent that they would file cases against the teachers.
“We will also submit our report to the authority for departmental action against them,” he said.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Obaidul Haque said, “The teachers on exam duty were responsible.”
Cases will be filed against them, the OC said, adding that the convicted examinees were sent to jail.
In Barisal, police detained 10 people, including former president of the district's Chhatra League Rejaul Islam Bappy and two candidates, for allegedly attempting to leak question papers of the recruitment exam.
They also seized three electronic devices, eight mobile phones and Tk 1.5 lakh from them.
Mahafuzur Rahaman, acting commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said they caught the detainees red-handed when they were trying to prepare solutions to the questions and send those over the phone while the exam was going on.
During interrogation, the detained admitted that they were trying to send answers to the questions to candidates in exchange for money, he said at a press conference.
Abdur Rouf, deputy commissioner of BMP, told our Barisal correspondent that the detainees would be produced before a court and a case would be filed against them.
In Jamalpur, a mobile court sentenced four people including a candidate to different terms for their involvement in cheating in the examination.
The court, led by executive magistrate Akash Kumar Kunda, caught them red-handed, our Jamalpur correspondent reported.
