Shab-e-Barat, the holy night of fortune and forgiveness, will be observed on the night of June 2 as the Sha'ban moon was sighted in Bangladesh sky yesterday.

The decision came at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation office at Baitul Mukarram in the evening.

Shamim M Afzal, director general of the foundation and member secretary of the committee, presided over the meeting.

M Maqsudur Rahman Patwari, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division; M Shahiduzzaman, additional secretary of the religious affairs ministry; Mohammad Nurul Islam, joint secretary of the information ministry; and Maulana Mohammad Salah Uddin, Baitul Mukarram Khatib; were present.
