Road crash kills college student in Chittagong

A college student was killed and three others were hurt when a bus and a CNG-run three-wheeler collided head-on in Khulshi area of Chittagong yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Tithi Barua, 20, a first-year honours student of economics at Chittagong Government Women's College in the city, said police. She hailed from Rangunia upazila in Chittagong.

Sub-inspector Mahbub Alam of Khulshi Police Station said Tithi, along with three friends, was going to Foy's Lake Amusement Park in the three-wheeler when a passenger bus, coming from the opposite direction, collided with it around 1:00pm in front of Holy Crescent Hospital.

Locals rushed the injured to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the on-duty physician declared Tithi dead around 1:30 pm, said assistant sub-inspector Alauddin Talukder of CMCH Police Camp. The three others were given primary treatment.

Police detained the bus driver with the help of locals and also seized the bus, said Mahbub.
