Records tumble as Modi turns 66
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday marked his 66th birthday as the government of India was eyeing three Guinness world records and one national record.
Modi started his birthday celebrations with a visit to his mother Hiraben. He spent there around 25 minutes and took blessings from her.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior BJP leader LK Advani, among others wished him on his birthday, along with hundreds of important personalities from across the globe.
A Surat-based bakery has also baked a special birthday cake for the PM, and is aiming for Guinness World Record as the tallest pyramid cake ever made.
The gigantic 7-foot tall choco-berry-flavoured cake is prepared by a team of 30 chefs who created the wonder within a time bracket of 48 hours. It weighs a total of 3750 kilograms.
In a major initiative in his home state Gujarat, Modi was to distribute 17,000 assistive aids and appliances kits to among 11,223 disabled people - the highest ever number in the world.
According to Indian media reports, the organisers aim to break a world record for maximum number of people in wheelchairs who form an image or a logo. The previous record was made in the US by 346 wheelchair-bound persons in 2010.
Another record expected to be set anew will be by providing hearing aids to another 1,000 hearing-impaired persons. The previous record was held in Australia when 500 persons were given hearing aids. The event will be monitored by officials from Guinness World Records.
As many as 1,500 oil lamps will be lit simultaneously at a single location to establish another record.
