Non-Govt Teacher: Demand for nationalising jobs illogical

Says prime minister

Terming the non-government teachers' ongoing movement for nationalisation of their jobs illogical, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said their demand would not be met.

The government is considering a move to recruit teachers through the Public Service Commission, she said at a joint meeting of the Awami League and its associated bodies at the Gono Bhaban.

Leaders of the AL presidium, advisory council, central working committee and its front and associated bodies were present, said meeting sources.

Hasina, also the AL president, asked her party leaders to stand beside the families of the US-Bangla aircraft crash victims.

She also directed them to enquire about the condition of the victims' families and find out how the AL could help them.

About the death of 11 medical students in the Monday's tragic accident, she said “some flowers have dropped before they are bloomed”.

The PM asked the ministers concerned to take initiatives from now on so that the prices of essentials do not go up during the forthcoming Ramadan.

She stressed the need for cutting the interest rates of bank loans.

Speaking at the meeting, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, also an AL presidium member, requested party leaders to make identical statements on a particular issue.

Private teachers last year launched a movement demanding nationalisation of their jobs. The movement gathered pace at the beginning of this year.
