A woman was stabbed to death by a stalker in Gazipur's Tongi yesterday morning.

The 34-year-old victim from Jhalakathi had been living in Tongi with her two children following separation from her husband. She made a living by selling cooked food. Saizuddin, 70, a mechanic at a rickshaw garage, often stalked her, say police.

Yesterday morning, she went out to deliver food to customers. On her way back home, Saizuddin intercepted her in Duttapara area around 9:00am and gave her an indecent proposal.

As the woman turned it down, he stabbed her and fled the scene, said Md Sajal, sub-inspector of Tongi East Police Station.

Locals took the woman to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead, he mentioned.

Contacted, Zabed Masud, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the victim's brother filed a case against Saizuddin, who has been absconding since the murder. 

Police are trying to arrest him, added the OC.
