Positivity rate dips

A total of 12.64 percent people tested positive for Covid-19 in the country in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, which took the positivity rate to the lowest in the last four months.

Among 14,973 people, 1,892 tested positive for coronavirus in those 24 hours. Their samples went through rt-PCR tests in 94 labs.

Earlier on May 9, the nearest positivity rate was 11.63 percent as 5,465 rt-PCR tests were conducted in 35 labs, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 329,251 and the overall positivity rate stands at 19.84 percent.

In the same 24 hours, 36 new Covid-19 patients died, according to a press release of DGHS Covid-19 Control Room.

The total number of casualties due to this highly transmissible virus now stands at 4,552. This is 1.38 percent of all confirmed cases.

Nineteen of the deceased were males while 17 were females yesterday.

Two each aged between 11 and 20 and 31 and 40 while four between 41 and 50, six between 51 and 60, and the highest 22 over 60.

The highest 16 of them were from Dhaka division followed by eight in Khulna, six in Chattogram, two each in Rajshahi and Barishal, and one each in Rangpur and Sylhet divisions.
