Oikyafront to brief foreign diplomats on its demands

Jatiya Oikyafront leaders will brief foreign diplomats about its seven-point demand and 11- point goal today.

The newly formed alliance leaders will also explain its position on the country's current political situation, especially on the election atmosphere.

Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain, on behalf of the combine, will brief the diplomats and give them a written statement, said alliance leaders.

The alliance has already invited all diplomats stationed in Dhaka to the programme which would be held at 3:00pm at a city hotel.

“We will brief diplomats about our goals and demands,” Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener of Nagorik Oikya, which is a component of the Jatiya Oikyafront, told The Daily Star.

At its launching programme on Saturday, the Oikyafront unveiled an 11-point goal and promised sweeping reforms in governance system if voted to power.

The alliance also declared a seven-point demand, including holding the national election under a non-partisan government, dissolution of parliament before election schedule announcement and reconstitution of the Election Commission.

The BNP and four other political parties formally formed the alliance, excluding Bikalpadhara Bangladesh led by former president Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury, just months before the national polls.

Four other parties are -- Gonoforum led by Dr Kamal Hossain, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal led by ASM Abdur Rab, Nagorik Oikya and Forward Party.
