Niko Graft Case: Khaleda trial to be held in old Dhaka jail

The trial of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others accused in the Niko corruption case will be held at a makeshift court in Old Dhaka central jail.

The law ministry yesterday issued a gazette notification transferring the court citing security reasons.

According to the gazette, room no 7 of the old central jail's administration building will be the venue for the makeshift court.

Bikash Kumar Saha, joint secretary of the law ministry, who signed the gazette notification, told The Daily Star last night that the court was scheduled to hold a hearing today.

On December 9, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Niko graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing Khaleda and 10 others of abusing power to award a gas exploration and extraction deal to Canadian company Niko during her tenure as the prime minister.
