A Faridpur court sent a man to jail yesterday on charge of raping a 13-year-old girl in Gopalganj's Kashiani upazila.

The accused is Md Sumon Mollah, 25, son of Md Sher Ali Mollah of Jatigram village under Alfadanga upazila in Faridpur.

In a press conference, Jamal Pasha, additional superintendent of police in Faridpur, confirmed the matter.

According to a press release issued by Alfadanga Police Station, the victim stays at her maternal uncle's house.

She was returning home after bathing at a pond around 1:30pm on April 30 when Sumon forcibly took her to a field of one Amir Mia of Jatigram village, raped her and left.

After that the victim managed to return to her house and told her family members. She was admitted to hospital.

The victim's uncle filed a case against Sumon with Alfadanga Police Station on May 1.

Police then conducted several drives to arrest Sumon.

On a tip-off, they arrested him from Bejidanga bridge area under Kashiani upazila in Gopalgonj around 12:45am on Sunday, added Jamal Pasha.
