‘Gunfight’ With BGB: Rohingya ‘yaba trader’ killed in Bandarban

A Rohingya yaba trader was killed in a "gunfight" with Border Guard Bangladesh in Naikhyangchhari upazila of the district early yesterday, officers said.

Adham, 23, was a resident of Tambru Konar Para Rohingya camp, said Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB battalion-34.

BGB men also found 40,000 yaba pills, a locally-made firearm, and two bullets at Baishfari Mokkortila, where the so-called gunfight took place around 3:45am.

According to a press release, the incident happened after BGB officials stopped a group of 10-12 men trespassing into Bangladesh from Myanmar through the hills.

The men started shooting at the BGB officials when the latter asked them to identify themselves, the release adds, the BGB men then retaliated.

After the intruders fled the scene, the BGB team found Adham lying on the ground. He was taken to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the release reads.

Two BGB members were also injured, the release claimed.
