Formulate another stimulus package

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the finance ministry and other related ministries and divisions to formulate another financial stimulus package plan keeping a possible second wave of Covid-19 in consideration.

The premier gave the order at a meeting at the Gono Bhaban. The meeting was held to finalise the 8th Fifth Year Plan (2021-2025).

PM's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Jahid Tusher briefed reporters after the meeting.

Shamsul Alam, member of General Economics Division of the Planning Commission, presented the final 8th Fifth Year Plan with the slogan "Towards the prosperity with all".

Hasina saw the plans of various ministries and divisions in the 8th Fifth Year Plan and gave necessary directives.

She asked the Planning Commission to prepare separate highlights on the strategy and action plan of the Plan.

The 8th Fifth Year Plan will be approved in the next meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council.

Speaking at the meeting, the premier said she planned a roadmap for the country's development when she was in a sub-jail in the capital during the tenure of the 1/11 caretaker government.

She asked the authorities concerned to work for expanding markets of Bangladeshi products in regional and international arena alongside creating a stronger domestic market.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam, Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, Senior Secretary to the Planning Commission M Asadul Islam and Senior Secretary to the finance ministry Abdur Rouf were present in the meeting.
