Ex-BCL leader shot dead in Cumilla

Criminals shot dead a former Chhatra League leader in Cumilla city last night.

The victim, Delwar Hossain, 45, son of Abu Mohsin of Shambakshi area, was a former BCL organising secretary of Cumilla (south) district. He was also a councillor candidate of Cumilla City Corporation election held last year.

Komol Krishna Dhar, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Sadar (south) Police Station, said two attackers on a motorcycle shot Delwar point-blank when he was walking on a road in Shambakshi area around 9:45pm.

He was declared dead after being taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.

Syed Nurul Islam, superintendent of Cumilla police, said Delwar had disputes with local Awami League men as he was a councillor candidate in the last city polls.

Police were investigating the murder, he added.
