Doctor dies of post-Covid complications

Prof Farid-ul-Alam, former head of paediatrics department of Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College, died from post-Covid-19 complications at a port city hospital early yesterday.

He was 67.

Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury, general secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Chattogram chapter, said Farid was a student of 17th batch of MBBS at Chattogram Medical College.

Prof Farid tested positive for coronavirus around two months ago and tested negative after treatment, the physician said.

Faisal said he had been suffering from post-Covid complications.

As his condition deteriorated, he was moved to ICU at Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College where he breathed his last around 12:10am yesterday, said the BMA leader.

With this death, 159 doctors have died from Covid-19 in the country, said Ehteshamul Huq Choudhury, secretary general of BMA.
