Daily deaths rise again


The daily death toll from Covid-19 rose again yesterday.
In the past 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, 46 people died due to coronavirus, according to the health directorate.
This is the second highest number of daily deaths in August. The highest number of deaths was 50 on August 4.
In the previous day, the number of deaths was 39.
The total number of deaths due to this highly infectious virus rose to 3,907 -- 1.34 percent of all confirmed cases.
As 2,265 people tested positive for the virus in the same 24 hours yesterday, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 292,625.
The positivity rate was slightly less than 20 percent. The overall positivity rate was more than 20 percent.
Yesterday, 2,952 new patients recovered from their illness. With this, 60 percent of all infected people recovered from their illness.
According to reference website worldometers.info, Bangladesh is now the sixth highest number of actives cases (113,151).
Besides, in terms of total confirmed cases, Bangladesh is currently on the 16th position in the list of the worst affected countries in the world.
The position is one step behind Pakistan and one step ahead of Italy.
Of the yesterday's deceased, one died in home and 45 died in hospitals.
Ten of them were females and 36 were males.
One of them aged between 31 and 40, six between 41 and 50, six between 51 and 60 and 33 over 60.
Nearly half of the dead were aged over 60 years, according to the press release of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
One each of the dead yesterday was from Rangpur and Khulna divisions, two each were from Barishal and Sylhet while five from Chattogram, eight from Rajshahi and the highest 27 were from Dhaka division.
So far, the highest number of deaths -- nearly half -- due to Covid-19 were from Dhaka division.
In the same 24 hours, 550 people were put in isolation, according to the press release.
