Councilor- elect held for murder

Police in Patiya yesterday arrested newly elected councillor Sarwar Kamal Mosleh Uddin Rajib over the killing of a man in front of a polling centre on Sunday.
Sarwar was elected as the councillor of ward-8 in the Patiya Municipality election which was marked by allegations of voter fraud and violence.
Abdul Mabud, 45, brother of another councillor runner, was fatally stabbed during a clash between supporters of Sarwar and another contender in front of Gobindarkhil Government Primary School, said Rezaul Karim, said officer-in-charge of Patiya Police Station.
Locals said about nine people were injured in the clash around 1.00pm.
Hours later, the deceased man's brother Abdul Mannan, who was a contender in the election, filed a case accusing Sarwar and six others, police said.
