Body of missing boy found in septic tank

Police recovered the body of a seven-year-old schoolboy from the septic tank of an under-construction house in Rangpur city's Tantipara area yesterday, 27 days after he went missing.
The dead, Siam Babu, 7, was from Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila. Police suspected that criminals murdered the boy and dumped the body in the tank.
According to police, Siam used to live with his grandparents in Tantipara. He went missing on February 14 after going out to play.
The following day, his grandfather filed a general diary with Kotwali Police Station over his going missing.
Yesterday, construction workers found the body in the tank of the under-construction house near the home of the victim's grandparents and informed police of the matter.
Later, a team of Kotwali Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police recovered the body around 2:00pm and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Siam's grandparents later identified the body.
The victim's father, a mason by profession, lives in Lalmonirhat while the mother, a garment worker, stays in Dhaka, said police.
Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the general diary would be treated as a case and that the police already opened an investigation into the incident.
