BNP’s 42nd founding anniversary today

The BNP is observing its 42nd founding anniversary today across the country. The party has drawn up several programmes to mark the day.

Late president Ziaur Rahman had founded the party on September 1, 1978 aiming to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.

The BNP said it would observe the day's programmes maintaining social distancing rules. At 6:00am today, the party flag will be hoisted atop its Nayapaltan central office in the capital and all other offices elsewhere in the country.

Besides, the party standing committee members will place wreaths and offer Fateha at Zia's grave in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 11:00am.

The leaders and activists of BNP Dhaka north and south units will also place wreaths at the grave at 11:00am and 12:00pm respectively.

The party will organise a virtual discussion at 3:00pm.

Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued separate messages ahead of the party's founding anniversary. They greeted party leaders, activists, followers and people from all walks of life on the occasion.

After the assassination of Zia in Chattogram on May 30, 1981, his wife Khaleda Zia took over the party leadership.
